Platform: Adaptive Sports Foundation: Giving people with disabilities the opportunity to experience sports.
"We have the technology to adapt sport equipment to accommodate the disabled athletes and the volunteers who can teach them how to participate. There are so many people affected by disabilities including those who are returning home from war and are permanently wounded. This foundation gives them the opportunity to stay active and continue in their passion for sports."

Platform: Raising Awareness of Domestic Hunger
"Last summer I had the opportunity to donate my time on a daily basis to the United Way's Food Pantry...I actually worked directly with clients and assisted them in preparing their paperwork. This allowed me to experience first-hand how food insecurity can become a dominating force in people's lives. Parents know their children don't learn as well in school if they haven't ben properly nourished, and seniors know their health is at risk every time they have to ration their meals for days at a time."

Platform: EmBRACE Yourself: Get Scoliosis Straight
"When my x-rays reflected a curvature degree at 41 (severe scoliosis), my life changed dramatically. I almost lost my dance ability and was put into a back brace immediately. Being confined to a hard plastic cast that covered my entire torso changed my outlook on life. No matter how much I tried to fit in, my brace made me stick out for everyone to see. I was picked on, called names, and bullied...I am determined and I WILL also lower the bullying epidemic in schools. There is no one with more passion and real life encounters than myself to decrease this problem."

Plans to attend UCLA to study Sports Medicine and Music. Would like to become a Certified Licensed Athletic Trainer.

• Recipient of the President's Education award, Academic Excellence award and Good Samaritan award

• Member of Varsity Cross Country and Track teams

• Volunteers as a tutor and mentor at Azusa Homework House, and a childcare provider at Serenity Foster Care

• Born on the same date as her great grandmother!

Platform: Be A Walker

"Walking and running is part of my life. I am a young Hispanic female with a family history of diabetes. Hispanics are at a higher risk of developing and dying from diabetes, and twice as likely to have diabetes as non-Hispanics. New clinical trials have showed that when participants walked vigorously for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week, they cut their risk of developing diabetes by 50%."

Plans to obtain a master's degree and become a biologist.

• Vice President of Young Healers Club and member of Leadership Team at her high school this year

•Volunteers with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes Research and Education Foundation

• Sings, acts, plays the piano and loves to dance en pointe

• Participated in a video production and featured on a web site to have $5,000 donated in her name to Nick Jonas Foundation

Platform: Diabetes Awareness
"I hope to change people's attitudes on the seriousness of this disease. I have Type I diabetes, and therefore know from first hand experience the majority of people do not view diabetes as seriously as they do other problems such as cancer and AIDS. I hope to help people develop a better understanding of the seriousness of diabetes, and what people with diabetes endure on a daily basis, and help other to gain knowledge of how to prevent Type II diabetes. I will educate people on how they can get involved in helping to find a cure."
